Concrete Preparation

The single most important step during the installation process is prepping the concrete surface. Without it, epoxy won't adhere, resulting in failure.

Decorative Application

Once concrete surface prep is complete, the epoxy is mixed and applied to the concrete. A basecoat is applied followed by decorative chips depending on the system you choose.

Protective Topcoat

Depending on the epoxy floor coating system you select, in some instances a second coat is applied. During this step a light sanding and cleaning is done prior to the second coat.

Curing Time

Once the epoxy surfaces are added, the curing process begins. This time may vary depending on manufacturer instructions, but generally it can take between 2-5 days. This is crucial for the coating to harden properly.

How long do epoxy floors typically last?

With professional installation and normal home use, epoxy floors typically last 10–20+ years. Commercial and industrial spaces with heavy equipment may see 5–15 years.

Can my epoxy floors crack?

Epoxy flooring itself does not typically crack in response to temperature changes, but it can fail if the concrete slab underneath it cracks. The rigid nature of epoxy means it is not flexible enough to withstand significant foundation or subfloor movement.

Are epoxy floors slippery?

High-gloss epoxy can be slippery when wet, but safety can be improved. Installers can add anti-slip additives (grit or sand) or apply a textured finish for better traction. Keeping the floor clean and wiping spills quickly also reduces slick spots.

How do I clean and maintain epoxy floors?

Sweep or dust mop regularly to prevent scratches from grit. Mop occasionally with warm water and a mild detergent. Avoid using abrasive pads that can scratch the surface. Routine care keeps the floor glossy and protected.
